Worktop and kitchen island
Yes, a worktop can be done in microcement. We apply it over an existing top of MDF, wood or composite, or over a newly routed MDF top. The top gets an extra wear and stain resistant top coat. Still, the advice remains: cut on a board and put hot pans on a trivet. A microcement worktop is a living surface with character, not a ceramic worktop.
Splashback and kitchen walls
The splashback is the ideal place for microcement. No joints for grease to soak into, easy to wipe and in the same colour as the floor or worktop. Here too it can go straight over existing tiles, without demolition.
Kitchen floor
A microcement kitchen floor runs seamlessly into the living room and withstands chairs, crumbs and moisture. For kitchens with heavy foot traffic we recommend Sólida Plus or Tarkus.
Pros and cons of a microcement kitchen
- Pro: one colour across floor, wall and worktop.
- Pro: no joints, easy to clean.
- Con: the worktop needs care: do not leave acids standing, do not cut on the surface.
- Con: after years of intensive use you will want the worktop's top coat refreshed.
