What makes up the price?
- Substrate preparation. A level cement screed needs little work, an old tiled floor with height differences needs more.
- Material. Primer, base layer, reinforcing mesh, two finishing layers and a two component top coat.
- Labour. Microcement is handwork over several days, with drying time between layers. Labour is the largest part of the price.
- Details. Stairs, skirtings, niches, shower trays and basins take more time per metre than an open floor.
Realistic price indication in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands a professionally applied microcement floor usually costs between 90 and 150 euros per square metre, including material and labour. Bathrooms with floor and walls are often between 120 and 180 euros per square metre, because of more corners and waterproofing. Small surfaces carry a minimum charge, because preparation and drying times stay the same.

How to keep the price sharp
- Have the substrate delivered as level as possible by the contractor or plasterer.
- Combine rooms in one job, so preparation and travel are spread over more metres.
- Choose a standard colour from the collection of 40 colours.
- Plan the microcement as the last step of the renovation, so no one has to work on it afterwards.
Microcement compared to other floors
A resin floor is in a similar price range but is thicker and often requires demolition of the existing floor. Large format tiles can be cheaper per metre but come with joints, demolition and a longer lead time. Microcement is often the most economical choice in a renovation, precisely because the old floor or tiles can stay.
